The present book is is a study on English compounds within the context of generative grammar. This approach maintains that morphological and syntactic structures share the same formal properties, a common ground that has recently been called ‘morphology-syntax interface’. After a comprehensive analysis of compounding within word-formation – types, classes, thematic relations, and interpretations – this work focuses on the use of compounds in specialized languages, in particular English for Tourism, Ship English, and Scientific English.
